Saturday 14th June

It was the first day of the Railway's War on the Line weekend, and seven enthusiastic souls assembled at M&FM for the day's activities. Graham and Eddie headed off on the line inspection to Alton, with Adrian and Martin B undertaking the longer haul to Alresford. This left  Ian J and John to go straight down to the A31 embankment to light a bonfire, and to continue with the strimming of the top of the embankment, and Keith B stayed behind to wait for the first down train from Alton, to supervise the loading and dropping off of bricks at the Arleside hut site.

Boosted by the appearance of Neil and Paul C, the afternoon's work comprised of Keith, John, Graham, and Eddie burning cut material on the embankment, Ian carrying on with strimming operations, and Neil, Paul, and Adrian completing the hut chimney with the decorative top courses and chimney pot.

With the day at an end and the others having departed, Adrian and Keith decided to stop off at Northside View hut on the way back up to M&FM, to watch the scheduled display at 1600hrs by two Spitfires from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. The hut could not have been a better location, with the Spitfires seemingly using the two 'orange' men standing on the hut roof as a reference point for the centre of their display!
