Saturday 31st May

A gang of five assembled at M&FM for the line inspections, with Keith B and John heading off to Alton, and Keith H, Graham, and Adrian Alresford bound. Following their return to M&FM, the afternoon was spent on bank clearance work on the A31 embankment, with Keith H and Adrian making good progress through the forest of Buddleia with their chainsaws, and Keith B and Graham attacking the seemingly never ending task of burning the cut material.

Neil and Paul had also arrived by train to join them, and with John concentrated on laying the final brick courses on the Arleside hut's chimney stack. At the end of the day, only the top corbelled, decorative courses and chimney pot were outstanding.
