Today we welcomed new gang members Mike and Paul Dixon to the fold, who experienced a 'baptism of fire' beginning with the 6 mile line inspection to Alresford in extremely hot and humid conditions. Both they, and Ian J and Adrian who accompanied them, were glad to arrive at the other end for much needed refreshments. The Alton walk was undertaken by Keith B, Keith H, Neil, Eddie, and John.
In the afternoon, the train was caught back down the line to Ropley, where Keith B and Eddie disembarked with the strimmer to walk down to the Northside View hut to carry out some clearance work. The others comprising of MIke, Paul, Keith H, and Adrian were dropped off at Northside foot crossing (well actually a quarter of a mile short, such is the route knowledge of our footplate crews) to carry on with the replacement of keys with Panloc fastenings (joined by Ian who drove down). This was a tough job in the hot conditions, but nevertheless all of the Panlocs delivered to site by the mid-week gang were hammered in, together with a couple of extra bags worth taken down on the train.
The walk back up to Ropley, 'collecting' Keith and Eddie on the way, added to the grueling physical work out, but was helped by the prospect of an ice cream (or two if you are Adrian!) from the shop on arrival at the Station.
