A report from our Western Correspondent, Jes Mania...
Saturday started with light showers that moved away as we decided the running order of the day over tea in the mess. We were also heartened to hear that Tom, our ex-ranger and now fully paid up member of the gang did very well in his GCSE's, getting mostly A's and B's. Very well done Tom.
So Ian J and Mike walked to Alresford with Keith H and Paul D going to Alton. The walks were uneventful, and you begin to forget the beauty of this part of Hampshire when you do the walk regularly. Adrian, Keith B, Tom, John and Eddie went straight to site at 8.15 to carry on the much needed task of fishplate oiling towards Ropley. With two machines behaving (thank you Eddie) they were able to get under way, at full steam. Around midday the returning linewalkers joined there pals, who were by that time 52 joints in. With the weather set fair the afternoon just flew by, and by the end of the day we had not only reached Rople,y but also the magic 100 joints!! A very good job and great team work. Only another 6 to 7 miles to go!
