Saturday 9th August

A report from our Western Correspondent, Jes Mania.
Saturday started cloudy as a cast of thousands met at Medstead ready for the walk. Neil and Graham set of for Alton, Keith and Ian J went to Alresford. With so many in attendance Adrian, John, Ian R and Eddie set out to start the continuation of the fishplate oiling, which is in the direction of Ropley.
The day cleared and we had a perfectly set weather pattern for a good days work. Later on Martin R joined us and the walkers set out to join the others on the oiling task.  The railway was very busy with the first day of Thomas visitors who all seemed to be enjoying themselves. We acknowledged their enthusiastic waves as we continued the task in hand. By the end of the day we had worked through 67  joints (just over 3/4 of a mile) and two nut running machines!
