The first of these was to transport the surplus bricks from the chimney build at the Yew Tree hut site down the line to the site of the next new hut at Ropley Soak embankment. Traction was a bit of an issue early in the morning, with the Wickham Trolley struggling up the hill towards Four Marks on icy rails, but the destination was eventually reached and the bricks unloaded. This was followed by a return to the Yew Tree site to collect a load of cut timbers, before heading up the line to Alton for much needed sustenance at the Whistle Stop kiosk on the Station platform.
On the journey back out of Alton, the gang took the opportunity to replace a few broken SHC track fastenings on the section opposite the Brewery, before stopping again at the hut site to pick up another load of timbers bound for Ropley Soak. By this time Neil had appeared, and proceeded to finish off the hut chimney with the placing of the pot, and brickwork courses to the front of the hearth and to the top of the chimney breast, ably assisted by John.
Two further trips with timbers were made by the Wickham to the Ropley Soak site before time was called (also collecting left over sand from the Arleside hut), ending a very productive day.
