Saturday 7th February

It was the last Saturday of line occupation before the start of the year's train service the following week (beginning with the Spring Gala on 13th). Adrian was the first to arrive, and departed M&FM at 7am in the Company transport before others surfaced, bound for the Cole Estate in Newbury to collect a scaffold tower (and Neil).

A large gang of Eddie, Keith B, Keith H, Mike, Paul D, Graham, Pete, and Ian R meanwhile assembled back at HQ, and began gathering together the tools for the scheduled continuation of rail pad replacement work down the line in Soak cutting. This was frustrated somewhat by the disappearance of what turned out to be the only chuck for the impact wrench that fitted the RNB fastening nuts. After much searching to no avail, and the arrival of Adrian and Neil, it was thought that it may have been left up at Alton by the mid-week gang, who were in the process of replacing timbers in the pointwork.

This turned out to be the case, and the chuck was duly re-repatriated during the course of a Wickham Trolley run down to Alton for breakfast, and to drop off timbers for the hut at Yew Tree Curve. Paul C joined the gang at Alton, and with such a large contingent now present, it was decided to split the gang into two work factions, one to undertake the rail pad replacement, and one to work on the Pway hut, which the gang decided to name 'Chawton Heights'.

A good day was had by both parties, with two lengths of track re-padded in Soak cutting, and six wall timbers erected on the hut.
