Saturday 21st November

The gang arrived at M&FM HQ looking forward to a day of line occupation in bright but somewhat chilly conditions.

The first task was to ferry a not insignificant amount of materials down to The Grosvenor hut site, where Corina, Keith H, Adrian C, Brian, and Bill (later joined by Martin R, Neil, and Paul) set about fixing down the roof sleepers, screwing OSB sheathing to the top surface (in readiness for felting), fitting the fascia and wall joint cover battens, and applying the feather edge boarding to the timber infill panel above the chimney. The latter two items will be finished off next week. They also managed to tidy up the site by neatly stacking un-used timbers out of the way of the areas to be landscaped in the forthcoming weeks.

John, Martin W, and Ian R meanwhile formed a fencing/sleeper packing gang (later joined by Ian J and his son Matt), and took the Wickham Trolley and trailer down the line to the A31 bridge just outside Alresford, where a wing wall fence was repaired. They then travelled back up the line to Northside crossing, packing a few voids below sleepers, before collecting the hut gang and returning to base.
