A very foggy but dry (for a change!) day greeted the team.
Brian, Peter, Keith H, and Martin R went up the line to Alton, and Adrian C, Iain, and Bill went down the line to Alresford to do the track inspections.
Eddie, Martin W, John, and Adrian N went down the line and oiled fishplates on the Ropley to Alresford section, having started at Ropley Station the previous Saturday. Later after the track inspections had been completed and the usual breakfast baps consumed at the West Country Buffet, Keith H and Iain joined them.They managed to complete just under a miles worth of oiling, from Northside Crossing to Farm Road bridge.
Neil had came up on the first service from Alton, and joined by Martin R, they struck the moulds to release the final components for the new concrete chipping bin (two locking bars)
Brian, Adrian C, Bill, and Paul (later on joined by Corina after doing stall duties at the Basingstoke Railway Exhibition for the MHR Wagon Group) went off to do some fencing in the Alton section between Chawton Heights Pway hut and Chalk Dell bridge. This was a bit of a task, removing the undergrowth and ivy which had grown around the posts and old wires. They managed to replace about 1/4 mile of the top strand of wire, with the other six to be tackled next week.
On Sunday Adrian and Corina went up to Arleside, Northside View, The Grosvenor and Chawton Heights pway huts to scatter some wild flower seeds. Hopefully from June to October they will enhance the view.
Nearly a mile of oiling in a day! That’s impressive. I expect the fact the bolts were still in reasonable nick from last year and the Bance behaved itself contributed to the success. This could be the start of a new record for fish plate oiling – all done in 12 weeks?
