It was the first weekend of the November 'shut down' without service trains running, and also the annual Sponsored walk the Line event. As with previous years, the weather was pretty miserable with heavy/light rain forecast for the day, but nevertheless a gang of 10 assembled for duty at M&FM.
John was on Wickham Trolley duty for the Walk the Line event, ready with a first aider on-board to provide assistance and transport to any walkers getting into difficulty. Prior to taking up his duties however, a quick run was made up to Alton with the gang to pick up tools that had been left there the previous Tuesday. These were then taken down to Grosvenor Bank where Eddie, Keith H, Brian Ha, Brian Hi, Matt K, Martin W, Adrian C and new member Nick (later joined by Neil and Martin B) began the task of replacing chair bolts and pads. Corina stayed behind at base to carry out some painting, and also undertook some maintenance work to the concrete works door.
Despite the weather, they managed to process just over two panels of track before time was called at 3pm. The Grosvenor hut provided a welcome refuge from the weather during tea break and lunch!
Excellent effort! I hope the loco crews notice the improvement. Did you get many walkers passing by and if so I wonder did they think, “that looks fun”? We may have a flurry of new volunteers.
