The Tarka Trail

A holiday report from our western correspondent, Jes Mania..............

With a couple of days off mid week, I have been in Devon, taking advantage of the good weather with a cycle along part of the Tarka trail.

This long distance surfaced cycle and walking route runs the length of the old Barnstaple to Meeth railway line in mid and north Devon.

In the first image you see the remains of the old signal box at Instow crossing. And in the second image, and especially for all Southern Railway Concrete society supporters, the remains of the two coach station platform, all in concrete, at Watergate Halt, some 16 miles distance from Barnstaple and the point we turned around.
