Today started with the perfect weather conditions for both the key tasks namely the track patrols and the continuation of the fishplate oiling.
After the usual tea and catch up at base, Adrian N and Brian Hi headed Alton bound, with Pete and Keith H going to Alresford. This left Ian J, Martin W, Eddie, Adrian C & Corina to load up the tools and head for Alton to continue the closing sections of this years oiling work.
We were working in the area of Alton with reverse curves on the approaches to the station, so an advanced look-out was required at all times. A very credible mornings work saw 3/4 of a mile of joints completed before lunch. After lunch Corina returned from Alton with iced-lollies, phew, the gang completed the days work, with a total of 1 mile of track completed. This leaves the loops and sidings in Alton to finish, and another year's work will then be completed.
The remaining boys, post their walks went as an extra and dug out sleeper beds in readiness for spot, concrete sleeper changing, on a Tuesday evening, an Olympic sport in it's self!!
