Being the penultimate Saturday of Occupation for the weekend gang a large contingent turned out at base, first thing, for the usual briefing and catch up over a cup of tea.
It was decided Corina and Neil would go in the company van to a well know builders merchant to purchase a replacement door for the Northside P/Way hut. This was done in good time and order for these two to meet up with us later on, and they also managed to measure up the concrete coal bunker at M&FM, so that Neil could start to manufacture a replica bunker for use at Ropley Station.
The remainder of the gang, John, Brian's Hu & Hi, Adrian's C & N, Adam, Ian J, Martin, Peter, Keith H and Eddie took charge of the two Wickham Trolleys and after loading a suitable amount of tools departed for the first of five planned sleeper changes.
Two at Butts Junction were tackled first and then breakfast was called for at the station café in Alton. Where upon the other two gang members met up with us for a session of Bacon rolls and coffee, delightful.
We carried on with two more replacement thereafter including one at the tricky Junction joint on Wanders Curve. At which point the rain arrived.
After lunch the final sleeper was tackled and then a rather wet team returned to base. All in during the session we have changed 42 sleepers, which means 84 in total have to be moved to complete the task.
Well done guys. A fantastic effort on a long overdue task. Please tell me all the dead ones ended up in the sleeper graveyard at the Butts?
