Eight members were present and correct on the Monday morning, and welcomed new member Geoff Ladyman, who had attended the Railway's last Volunteer Welcome Day on the Sunday before last (he clearly hadn't realised what he was signing himself up for! -Ed).
The main task of the day comprised of opening out ballast beds at the country end of Alresford in readiness for further timber and sleeper changing work, a baptism of fire for Geoff. This was followed by jacking and packing the trackwork towards Perrins sidings.
On Tuesday, a large and precarious Beech tree next to the Motive Power Depot at Ropley was skillfully cut down by Contractors, while the gang were deployed on a number of tasks including setting up the speed limit signs on Butts bridge, sorting timbers at M&FM, and jacking and packing joints at Paper Mill Lane bridge at Alton.
