Saturday 27th December

Our Western correspondent, Jes Mania reports.....

The day started very cold and with a biting wind, made for a minus wind chill factor to be faced, full on in the line inspections. Adrian and Eddie walked the Alton section and the two Ian's the Alresford section. Because of the overnight winds these were a priority first thing today, to check the line was clear. A multi stemmed Ash tree was found on the Alton section to have blown over across the line, which Adrian and Eddie just managed to clear away without the need for saws. Neil and Paul joined at Alton increasing our numbers, and went straight to the site of the brick laying job at Yew Tree curve, continuing the good work there by laying six courses on the chimney stack. Upon returning to Medstead, the rest of us tackled two further jobs, the clearing out of our "concrete" works in readiness for its re-location by the Building Group, and the marking up of the next section for chair replacements, hopefully taking place in January. With Martin R joining as well, your scribe and he walked to Ropley, a slow walk, marking up the required work. Adrian, Eddie, and Ian R cleared out the concete works finding new homes for most key items. A very good days work.
