On a bitterly cold morning of -4 degrees centigrade in some parts, the crew began to assemble at M&FM HQ.
Corina and Pete J set off in the company vehicle to collect paving slabs from Passfield for the floor of the new p-way hut, and paint to refurbish the lines whistle boards. Meanwhile the rest of the gang comprising of Adrian C, Adrian N, Eddie, John M, Keith H, Brian, Graham, and Tony fired up both Wickham's trolleys ready for action, as they had occupation of the line for the day.
John, Eddie, Graham, Keith H, Tony, and Adrian N headed off up and then down the line in Wickham 1 on a mission to replace broken rail chairs, and by the end of the day had changed 14. A further 11 chairs will be tackled over the next couple of Saturdays.
Adrian C and Brian stayed behind at M&FM to prepare temporary metal whistle signs which were to take the place of the timber ones while they were being refurbished.
Once Corina and Pete returned with the goods, the slabs were loaded on to Wickham 2. Adrian C, Brian, Corina and Pete then transported and unloaded them at The Grosvenor Hut. They then went on to remove the Whistle boards from Wanders and Northside Crossings. These were taken back to M&FM, and will hopefully be ready to be re-erected in time for the "Spring Gala!"
Adrian C, Brian, and Pete then went back to The Grosvenor Hut, where Pete and Brian started laying the slab flooring and Adrian trimmed the door leaf to allow for expansion when fitted. Adrian then started to load the bricks (approx. 300) which had been left over from the chimney build onto the Wickham, which were to be taken back to the yard for storage.
Corina was joined by Neil in the Concrete Works hut where Corina started work on the Whistle Boards by cleaning them down, removing the letters, and sanding the surfaces ready to accept a new coat of paint. Neil cut the glazing beads for the window for the Grosvenor Hut, before the window was transported down to site on-board the Wickham and fitted.
