In Norway this Autumn, we enjoyed a mornings ride out on the Flaam railway. Advertised as the worlds most scenic rail journey, and absolutely stunning it is.
Some interesting statistics. At 12 miles long, it climbs from sea level to above 2,800 feet, bearing in mind mountains in this region are 5,000 feet plus. It has a gradient of 1 in 18, with five different braking systems on board. The railway was only finished in 1940, a busy year in Norwegian history!
Back to the 1 in 60 next week.
