It has been a busy couple of days for the mid-week gang attending to a variety of tasks. On Monday, they were spurred into action with news of a bovine incursion on the A31 embankment section of the line between Ropley and Alresford. A crack fence repair team were duly dispatched from M&FM in the Wickham Trolley, and attended to the problem, replacing broken strands of wire to prevent further instances of cows trespassing on the line. The opportunity was taken on the return journey back to base to pick up scrap items of metal (broken chairs, keys, fence wire etc.,) from the side of the line, next to Northside foot crossing and outside the new Pway hut (named Northside View) at Northside Lane.
The Alton section of the line was also inspected, with all fishplate bolts between M&FM and Mounters Lane bridge checked for tightness following the previous weeks oiling exercise.
Tuesday saw the gang burying signalling cables along the side of the cutting down into Ropley (clearly an essential Pway task!), using deposited heaps of chalk, and one member demonstated their versatility even further, by assisting with the cleaning out of the gutters on the buildings at Ropley MPD.
