Monday morning saw the mid-week gang descend on Alresford, to undertake the digging out of ballast beds in the dock siding and the pointwork adjacent to the new water crane, in readiness for sleeper and timber replacement work. This was followed in the afternoon by a small contingent being dispatched to the Butts at Alton to cut up and clear away the remains of a fallen tree, leaving the remainder of the gang to head down to Ropley Soak cutting, where they collected fallen branches and other debris blown down onto the lineside by the recent storms. The material was taken to the Grosvenor Road embankment for burning at a future date.
On Tuesday, the gang spent the day at Alresford, changing 4 sleepers and 4 pointwork timbers exposed by the previous days digging out work.
