A report from our Western correspondent, Jes Mania...
Saturday 4th was an unusual day with most of the Gang on an Outing to the South Devon Railway, and only Eddie and myself reported for duty, meaning we had to consider doing the two walks!!
Confident the rain would only be showers and was due to pass over in the morning, we decided to travel without waterproofs, and to do the Alresford walk first off. The timetable meant we were having to be very careful with our timings to catch the train. The walk was interrupted by showers, one very heavy, but we managed to stay dry ish and the fact we had decided to not bring our waterproofs seemed to have paid off. Graham was at Alresford to meet us, doing his loco theory, and very kindly set us up with the "full monty" breakfast. Thank you again. After recovering with further tea back at Medstead, we focused up and set out for the Alton walk. A sixth sense told us that the rain, now more persistent was not going to pass, so having raided the stores we set out in suitable orange and thankfully this kept us dry during a wet but warm walk to Alton. Returning to base we completed all the oiling and made some preparations for Eddie to modify our "shopping trolley" on skates, before retiring for home.
Upon arrival, my wife asked if I would like to go on a walk! Of course I obliged with another 4 miles!
