Overcast but dry conditions greeted the gang as 8 members signed in for duty. The Santa Special trains were now in full swing requiring both sections of track to be inspected. Graham and Bill thus headed off on the line inspection to Alresford, and Adrian C and Keith H tackled the Alton section. This left John , Eddie, and Martin W to gather tools together and head down to Ropley in the Company transport, where they spent most of the day identifying broken rail chairs on the Ropley to Alresford section, recording their location, and testing/lubricating the nuts on the retaining bolts in readiness for replacement work in January. Corina stayed behind at M&FM to help members of the Wagon Group to clear Pway artefacts out of a shelter in the Lower Yard, where an old tractor is to be kept and restored by the junior members off the Group early next year.
In the afternoon, the returning line walkers and Corina were joined by Neil, Paul, and Brian, and work proceeded on two fronts. Graham, Neil, and Paul travelled down to The Grosvenor hut site, and started the laborious task of reducing the ground levels inside the hut down to formation level for the laying of the concrete slab floor.
The others went down to the A31 embankment just outside Alresford, where they commenced bank clearance work on the south side, working from the road bridge towards Ropley.
