An early morning for some!. We all met up in the tea house at Kidderminster Station for a 9'o'clock bacon butty. Between the howling gale force winds and rain like stair rods, we boarded the first train out to Bridgnorth. Much to Neil's disgust it was a lovely steam train hauled by Bradley Manor.
It was decided to travel in a compartment coach, which was a bit of a tight squeeze with 9 bodies. Ian J drew the short straw and perched precariously on the edge of his lovely wife Rosemary's lap. Ian & Rosemary decided to get off at Highley to do a very wet & muddy trek back to Arley. The rest of us (Adrian C , Corina, Bretta, Martin R, Neil, Brian & Bill) went on to Bridgnorth. As we went past West Midlands Safari Park it was hoped to see some of the occupants such as the Elephants, Giraffes etc. Unfortunately they had more sensible ideas of staying warm in their houses, so it was more like Wimbledon Common than the Serengeti. Once we reached our first destination, Bretta & Martin went to explore the vernacular railway, Neil (as predicted) frequented the local hostelry on the Station, with the rest of us getting a hot drink to warm us up. After this, we all met up and caught the train back to Bewdley, where The Great Western pub was waiting for a customary pork pie and beer.
From Bewdley, the group minus Ian & Rosemary (who left as Ian hadn't bought any dry clothes and was rather wet through!) caught the train to Highley. Neil stayed on to go back to Bridgnorth to try out the local hostelry again!. The rest of us went up to the Engine House to take a look at the wonderful array of engines which are housed there, as their boiler tickets have expired. I was especially excited to see Gordon, as this used to be on the Longmoor Military Railway which was local to me.
On the way home we stopped off at The Jersey Arms, Middleton Stoney for dinner.
A great wet and windy day out.
