SUMMER RETURNS. The Saturday before Xmas loomed and 11 people turned in for what turned out to be a glorious day. With this number we were able to dispatch Keith H and Brian to Alton, and Bill and Adrian N on their walk to Alresford.
Meanwhile Eddie, John, Martin W, and Ian R took the company transport and went to The Butts on the Alton section, to start the recovery of chairs and nuts from the track panels stacked there (retrieved from the Gosport branch some years back). These are to be used in the New Year line occupations, when we will replace broken chairs. To date, we have recorded the location of aforementioned chairs, and pre-oiled the nuts ready for the work. These chaps had a cracking day, quite literally! By the end, they had removed over 60 chairs. (more than we need, so we will now have a good supply of spares for the future). On their return to base, they also managed to replace ten nuts on the main line with some of the recovered nuts.
Adrian C and Corina went to the Grosvenor Hut, digging out the remaining floor levels, a job now completed, ready for the floor to go down. Later, and joined by Bill, Brian, and Adrian N, they completed the second coat of Creocote on the outside of the hut, along with preparing the entrance levels. To top it off the boys also took out one very sad tree that had been giving us concern for sometime, on the Soak embankment.
Ian J took the strimmer and with the advent of Summer again, went first to Northside View hut (where the sunrise can be seen over a completed site) and then on to Arleside hut. Some three hours of strimming brought a satisfactory result to both areas. Returning to Medstead, he spent time doing a bit of house keeping cutting up disks of Oak in the Yard, and reducing them to a beautiful pile of chopped wood ready for those gang members that partake, to take home on their return.
Merry Christmas to all our followers, we hope you enjoy our weekly updates. 2015 has been a very productive year for us on the Gang, the highlight being the completing of the oiling of all the joints on the main line.
