Saturday 16th April

A report by our Southern correspondent, the Hon. J.Y. Doom, with a contribution from our guest correspondent, Sir I. Bath (R.N)

With certain members of the gang AWOL on a jolly to the Swanage Railway, seven dedicated members turned up for a chilly damp day of excitement!  After the usual pleasantries plus tea and biscuits the gang split for the track inspections with Peter and Brian Hi to Alton and Keith H with Bill to Alresford. This left John, Eddie and Martin W to continue the Fishplate lube job starting from the London end points in Boyneswood cutting.

This was interrupted by a break to travel to Alresford for breakfast when a shower blew over, followed by another to return to base for refreshments and catch up with the other gang members. At this point Peter left to prepare for RAT duty, and Brian and Bill departed to Alton to do litter picking duty between the bridges in the Alton approach cutting where they managed to fill 11 bin bags.

The Lube gang with the addition of Keith H continued until they ran out of oil just beyond Hampshire Hunt, having completed 3/4 of a mile of joints. The day was rounded up back at base when fire wood was cut up and loaded into various cars boots!
