Saturday 3rd December
It was the first weekend of Santa Special trains, and a somewhat depleted gang of five assembled in cold conditions at M&FM for the day's activities. With only a service from Alresford to M&FM running, Ian J, Tony, Keith H, Martin B and Adrian C departed on the line inspection westwards.
On their return to base they were greeted by Keith B, who was down for the day from Shropshire, and after refreshments they travelled down to the A31 embankment just outside Alresford to begin bank clearance work. Steady progress was made, with two satisfying fires on the go to dispose of the cut material.
If we’re doing more of the same this coming Saturday, the weather is not looking to jolly (dull and damp). It may pay for a plucky volunteer to go straight out to site and get a fire going. Preferably not an alumnus of the John Woodley school of fire lighting (motto There’s no smoke without more smoke).
