Monday 17th and Tuesday 18th December

Monday was a day where the gangs forestry skills were called upon, with a fallen Ash tree on the Alton section to attend to. The tree had come down adjacent to the layby on the A31 dual carriageway, and of course had managed to sever the boundary fence wires on its way down, which needed to be repaired. To supplement the resulting supply of fire wood, another Ash tree which was leaning precariously over the line adjacent to the start of the dual carriageway was felled, and it is understood the Company van was seen heading off towards deepest, darkest Wiltshire loaded with logs for the Management!

On Tuesday, a trip was made to Alresford to adjust the position of some sleepers for the Signal Engineering Departments' ongoing work re-routing signal cables, and the standard steel rail keys were also replaced with Panlocs. En route, a residual supply of bricks were picked up from the new Pway hut at Northside Lane, and deposited at the construction site of the Pway hut at the A31 embankment. 

Other work included a trip to Alton to deliver the newly restored ex Itchen Abbas corrugated hut to its final location adjacent to the water tower, and a dead and fallen Ash tree which had been spotted on the edge of Baigents Copse was cut up and the fence repaired.
