"Arleside" or "Alreside"

We have received a query as to whether the spelling of the River Arle used in the name of our new hut "Arleside" is correct, as it is spelt as Alre in the Town name of Alresford, and some other references.

Not wishing to get it wrong we researched this, and the old and correct way, as used both in the Parish records and at the Ordnance Survey is Arle. Our OS correspondent was able to find the following information on their database detailing the source of the River, which states 'The Arle rises in a spring on the north side of the A31 near Ropley (a short distance to the west of Northside Lane- Ed). At first it is little more than a ditch, but it widens out through the cress beds behind Bishop's Sutton. These must be the cress beds which spoiled the delightful trout stream referred to by R.D. Baird in his book, A Trout Rose'.

The OS grid reference for the spring is SU6175 3179.
