Saturday 20th February

A report by our lady correspondent, Nora Cliski.............

An overcast day with a bit of drizzle greeted the gang at M&FM. After the usual tea but no cake! the gang divided up. Keith H and Brian went off to Alton, and Ian J and Graham went to Alresford on the track inspections. Adrian C and Corina went up to Ropley then on to Alresford to oil the points, and Eddie, Martin W, Ian R, and Pete went to The Shrave cutting (just outside M&FM) to start the annual check on the R.N.B. 6 track fastenings, marking up the ones that needed attention. This left John at M&FM to remove the chipping bin concrete floor planks cast the previous Saturday from their mould.

Later on in the morning the various gangs met back at base for another warming cuppa.Eddie, Graham, Martin, Ian R, Ian J and Pete then returned to The Shrave with Ian J and Graham to replace 22 R.N.B. fastenings. Neil and Paul had come up on the service train from Alton, and with John M concentrated casting the two end sections, and the front and back planks for the chipping bin. Adrian and Keith H, joined by Martin R went off to Wickes to purchase further supplies of sharp sand for the casting gang, while Corina went to attend the Wagon Group AGM.

Having  completed the task in The Shrave, the RNB gang headed down the line to Soak cutting to check the fastenings there, returning when the rain became more persistent.
