Saturday 20th May

A report from our western correspondent, Jes Mania..................

Today started with very good weather, as Brian Ha, Martin's B & W, Eddie, John, Keith H and Ian J attended at Medstead first think. With John remaining at base, and Ian & Keith walking the Alresford lengths, this left the others to have a relatively light day and complete the fishplate oiling at Alresford.

The walk was in glorious weather and only showing signs of rain as we went into the cutting at Sun Lane, Phew! We found the others on their morning break enjoying the full delights of the café.

During the oiling gang finished what was left of the old main line to Itchen Abbas, and the sidings that they could access (remarkably a good number), thereafter returning to base to reduce down the ever growing log pile.

Back at Medstead Neil & Paul were finishing the oiling cabinet, country end, and after lunch, with John and Ian in tow, the country end oiling cabinet was assembled at Ropley. Good progress on all fronts.

Like bees around a honey pot, we all spent most of the time, when at Medstead yard looking at the new "toy" our department has. A replacement road/railer, and what a joy to see it on site at last, we cannot wait to see it in action.
