A report from our western correspondent, Jes Mania.........
Saturday started cold, but with high cloud it very quickly turned into the beginnings of a good day, and another classic day was had by all.
Adrian C & Ian J departed very early in the company transport to pick up a
stacking system for all of the “bits and pieces”, a job for a rainy day! In
addition, they picked up 4 large Sterling boards for use in future building of lineside huts,
followed by a breakfast in Odiham (for a change).
Back at base Keith H & B, Eddie, Martin W, Pete and
Tony, split themselves two ways and conducted the walks. After they returned to
base to link up with the other two, we were also joined by Martin R and Neil
for a tea break and discussion on the afternoon's proceedings. Our break was
interrupted by a 12 coach, three locomotive special coasting through, which
included two class 73’s and a class 66!! Neil had to be brought round afterwards with smelling salts!

Keith B, Eddie & Martin W went off and strimmed around
Northside Hut, with the remainder of the gang going to the site of the 5th
Hut, The Grosvenor, to start some preparation work. After some 3 hours work, 24 switch and crossing timbers had been cut to length and stacked, and the site of
the hut strimmed.

On the face of it, it did not appear that much had been achieved, but it was actually a very energy sapping job, whether lifting sleepers or wielding a chainsaw in heavy protective gear. Well done all.
