From the pen of our Western correspondent, Jes Mania.......
This second evenings work concentrated on all things sleeper. Martin’s R & W, Ian’s J & H, Eddie, Adrian C, Corina, John, & Keith H were in attendance so a good gang were able to use the Wickham. We first of all went to Chawton Heights Hut and picked up the two concrete sleepers. Some of the newer members of the Gang were introduced to the delights of moving (and lifting) these ¼ of a ton of dead weight items. Once loaded it was off to Alresford were we unloaded them to be used at a later date as retaining walls in the Sun Hill cutting. A job that can always be continually worked on when there is nothing else to do.
Passing Arleside Hut on the way back we attached the remaining battens to the hut, and coated them in the usual Creocote stain.
Thereafter we returned for more tools and went out and replaced the one damaged crossing timber on Wanders Crossing, returning to base in time for dusk.
