Summer had certainly arrived with a heatwave forecast for the weekend. Slightly down on numbers, a gang of seven left the mess in bright, sunny conditions to start the day's activities.
Bill and Tony set off on the line inspection to Alresford (also spanner checking fishplate bolts on those oiled a few weeks before), and Martin W, Corina, Ian R, Keith H, and Adrian C travelled up the line to Brick Kiln Lane to continue with the fishplate oiling. They endured the hot, baking conditions until around 2.30pm when tiredness and thirst brought an end to the work, with just under 3/4 of a mile of plates oiled. A stop at the garage in Four Marks on the return to base was a must for ice cream!
