Saturday 18th July

Our western correspondent, Jes Mania reports........We have been very blessed with warm dry summer Saturday's this year and Saturday 18th July was no exception. With 7 of us appearing at Medstead first thing, we decided that Ian J and Pete would walk to Alresford and the remainder, Adrian C, Martin W, John, Keith H & Eddie, would continue with fishplate oiling. This began from near the new hut at Chawton Heights and the boys certainly stuck to the task in hand.

Joined by Ian around lunchtime after his walk (Pete having left for a break before RAT duties in the evening), the boys were treated to waves from the passing PWay luncheon club (Neil and Martin R). This was from their cool location on the train as they made their way to Alresford! By the end of the day, around 80 joints had been tackled. Remember there are 88 joints to the mile, so a very good effort to those 5 souls who stuck at it.
