Our Western correspondent Jes Mania reports, with thanks also to IK Brunel Harris.......
Seven individuals attended first thing on Saturday, with
Martin R joining us later. Iain and Ian J walked to Alresford, with Keith H and
Ian R walking to Alton. Meanwhile Eddie, Tony and Martin W went straight to
Ropley to walk through to Alresford with the specific task of checking all the fishplate bolts. Conditions were just too hot to do
fishplate oiling.
While Ian and Iain were at Ropley, a plea came
through to clear around the signal wires in the Ropley and Alresford
area where they lead out to inner home signals, as the tall grass and fallen debris from flailing was in danger of impeding the operation of the wires. Keith, Martin R, Ian R and Iain therefore spent over 3 hours in the afternoon clearing the wires at
Ropley, with Alresford to be tackled during the course of the Tuesday evening session.
